James Oscar est écrivain, critique d'art, commissaire d'exposition et chercheur en sociologie et anthropologie de l'art à l'Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique (INRS). Son travail explore comment la complexité des identités et des formes sociales et affectives (humaines et non humaines) se diffuse dans les arts visuels, littéraires et performatifs. Il poursuit actuellement des recherches en anthropologie urbaine et sociologie de l'art à l’INRS, plus précisément dans le laboratoire/art et société/fonds et théories (l/as/tt). Il a étudié étroitement avec le poète/essayiste Édouard Glissant. Son dernier projet curatorial “Them Voices” était exposé au Festival Transamériques en mai 2021 visait un engagement pédagogique organisé par la recherche et la présentation de contextes, documentation accompagné d’un article écrit détaillé avec la commissaire Ivanie Aubin Malo et dialogue d'engagement du public. James a aussi été consultant en conservation pour le Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal « De l'Afrique aux Amériques : Picasso face à face, passé et présent »- 2018.
James Oscar is a writer, art critic, curator and researcher in the sociology and anthropology of art at the Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique (INRS). His work explores how the complexity of social and affective identities and forms (human and non-human) are diffused in the visual, literary and performative arts. He is currently pursuing research in urban anthropology and sociology of art at INRS, specifically in the lab/art and society/funds and theories (l/as/tt). He has studied closely with the poet/essayist Édouard Glissant. His most recent curatorial project "Them Voices" was exhibited at the Festival Transamériques in May 2021 aimed at a pedagogical engagement organized through research and presentation of contexts, documentation accompanied by a detailed written paper with curator Ivanie Aubin Malo and public engagement dialogue. James also served as a curatorial consultant for the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts "From Africa to the Americas: Picasso Face to Face, Past and Present"- 2018.
